![]() ![]() They are well suited for outdoor use in cool but not cold temperatures. They are not that warm, especially if worn without a shell the wind blows right through them. I don’t have trouble typing nor swiping with them.Ĭonclusion: If you’re looking for a fleece liner that doubles as a lightweight glove, these might be a decent choice for you. Screen Tap: The screen tap finger and thumb work. Since I use them quite a bit outside of a shell, I’ve caught them on things and have ripped a couple of small holes in them. I mostly use them as a lightweight glove for nightime walks or driving on cold days. I use a mitt system so this is the only type of layering that I’ve done with the liners.Ībrasion: The gloves are intended to be liners. Had I known their performance capabilities prior to my purchase, I would have looked for something more effective. There was no literature that I found which explained the lower limits of these liners. I anticipated the “heavyweight” liners to perform well at lower temperatures. At about freezing (32☏) (0☌), they lose their effectiveness. The gloves don’t really keep my hands that warm even in my OR Alti Mitt shells. I ordered the heavyweight liners in order to gain maximum warmth inside of a Goretex shell. Warmth: This is where the liner falls short in my opinion. Since they are synthetic fleece, they don’t retain moisture and keep your hands pretty dry. Water Resistance: The glove is just a fleece liner so they are not water resistant.īreathability: They breath quite well. There are no drawstrings or other accoutrements. They are comfortable in going out in cool weather.Īdjustability: There is no need for adjusting since the gloves are fitted. In other words, the stitching contours the natural form of the hand to a certain extent. Stretchy liners that provide efficient, highly breathble insulation under a shell glove or as a lightweight stand-alone, the Black Diamond MidWeight GridTech gloves feature a warm yet lightweight grid fleece that traps warmth in gridded channels without inhibiting breathability. Technical stretch-fleece liners designed to be worn under a shell or as a super lightweight stand-alone, the MidWeight GridTech gloves are highly compressible with a grid fleece interior and a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Here’s what Black Diamond writes of their MidWeight GridTech Gloves: Note: The black patches on the thumb and forefinger are nominally for touch-screen compatibility however, I have found them NOT to work and disavow that feature here. I’d imagine they’ll take me at least another 20F/10C degrees colder while running… but I tend to run warm, and they’re definitely running-weight gloves rather than Arctic-expedition warmth. So far, they’ve been great on runs as well as walking around outside down to 20F (-6C), which is the coldest I’ve encountered so far this mild autumn. I’ve worn these gloves a bunch since receiving a sample pair. Well, I did some digging, got enough pairs for me and about 100 iRunFar fans, and had the iRunFar logo sublimated on to each glove. I wanted a pair, but no luck as I wasn’t in the race. Closer inspection revealed a pair of Black Diamond fleece gloves (specifically Polartec Power Grid) that looked like the perfect weight for mildly-cold-to-cold runs. “Those gloves are exactly iRunFar color,” I thought to myself as I picked up a pair. Last July at Hardrock checkin, a pair of gloves instantly caught my eye. ![]()
